PROVENANCE
An Important Private Collection, Toronto

The bronzes of Ivan Eyre are a sometimes lesser known, but essential element of his overall practice. Amongst his sculptures, North Watch is possibly his most widely know example, with monumental versions installed at Winnipeg’s famous Portage and Main intersection and on the grounds of the beloved McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinberg. With characters reminiscent of his large format surrealist paintings like Stills, Willows, 1971, sold by Heffel in November 2018, Eyre’s sculptures are key to understanding his lifelong engagement with figuration in their ability to appear classical and modern at once.

Please note the listed dimensions do not include the black stone base. The stone base measures 3 1/4 x 19 3/4 x 12 inches.
