In 1942 Sybil Andrews began war work in the yards of the British Power Boat Company at Hythe near Southampton, England. Peter White states, “Although she stopped making linocuts during the war years, this period was not totally unproductive. In her off hours she was able to work on a series of sketches of the shipyards that were later executed as oil paintings.”
