Lake Kamaniskeg is a beautiful large lake in the Madawaska Valley, about an hour’s drive north of Bancroft, Ontario. A.J. Casson depicted its various moods in multiple sketches (see also lot 206). Here, under grey skies, the lake’s waters range from glass-like, reflecting fall foliage in the mid-ground, to ruffled and dimpled by rainfall. Warm tones highlight the foreground rocks, balancing the cool greys in this peaceful scene.
