By descent from the family of the sitter, Catherine Rose
Private Collection, Gibsons, British Columbia


This portrait by William Brymner depicts Catherine Rose (b. 1880), the consignor’s grandmother, at the age of fourteen in 1894. The work has remained in the sitter’s family by descent to the present day. According to the consignor, Catherine Rose later married Francis Harrison, whose uncle was the artist, indicating a close familial connection between sitter and painter.
