LITERATURE
Maria Tippett, By A Lady: Celebrating Three Centuries of Art by Canadian Women, 1992, page 33

Maria Tippett notes that around the turn of the century, some Canadian women artists sought to break away from the traditional artistic themes of earlier generations. They began exploring new subjects, such as idealized views of motherhood and the concept of maternity. Muntz, for instance, portrayed children "taking their first tentative steps in the garden," which one writer described as demonstrating her "sympathetic understanding" of children.
