These two watercolours are consistent with Emily Carr's work from the mid 1890s. They are similar in style and subject to known Carr pieces, Canoes in Harbour and View in Victoria Harbour, two works donated by Dr. Walter Koerner to the UBC Museum of Anthropology (MOA). These watercolours at the MOA are Carr's first depiction of First Nations imagery, and Canoes in Harbour can be related to the circa 1908 watercolour "War Canoes, Alert Bay" (sold by Heffel in 2024) and the 1912 oil on canvas "War Canoes, Alert Bay" (sold by Heffel in 2000).
