Kim Dorland
Kim Dorland
1974 -
Kim Dorland, sourcing inspiration from the Group of Seven to Peter Doig, has become internationally celebrated for his chimeric landscape paintings rendered in vivid impasto. Dorland’s work depicts the trees, animals, people and spirits that inhabit the forests and wilderness of the Canadian imagination, highlighting the disconcerting unknown that lies at the heart of nature.

Born in Wainwright, Alberta, Dorland received his BFA from the Emily Carr University of Art + Design and his MFA from York University. His work has been exhibited internationally in London, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Milan and extensively throughout Canada, including the Vancouver Art Gallery and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. His work is held in numerous important collections including the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal; Musée d’art contemporain de Montreal; Glenbow Museum; Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Art Gallery of Alberta, and the Audain Art Museum.
