1953 -
Barry Allikas was born in Montreal in 1953. He had his first solo exhibition of paintings in 1979. His early career encompassed a variety of mediums such as painting, sculpture, ceramics and installation, but since the 1990s has been devoted to the practice of hard-edge abstraction mediated through the lens of pop art, post-modernism, and scientific theory. He has exhibited nationally and internationally, and is represented in many important public and private collections including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Hydro-Quebec, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, National Bank, Osler, Hoskin, Harcourt and TD Canada Trust. He lives and works in Montreal, and is currently represented by McBride Contemporain.
