Doucet-Saito
Doucet-Saito
1935/1938 -
Satoshi Saito (b. Tokyo, Japan, 1935) and Louise Doucet-Saito (b. Montreal, Canada, 1938) have been working together professionally as Doucet-Saito since 1963, having met while both were students in Montreal. Sharing a common love of ceramics, they travelled to Japan to study pottery under Tatsuzo Shimaoka and Seimei & Kyo Tusji. They returned to Canada in 1967, bringing a knowledge of traditional and modern techniques divorced from any one tradition, drawing inspiration from Oriental, Pre-Columbian, Egyptian, and Etruscan ceramic arts. Throughout their career they have developed an expressive, direct aesthetic, and have expanded their production from small-scale ceramics to monumental sculpture.
