Born in London, Ontario, Craven first studied business administration then decided to pursue a career in art. He attended the Ontario College of Art (1970-1973), and graduated with a strong understanding of, and interest in, abstract art. Although stylistically his work often seems disjointed, there is an undercurrent of consistentcy in his explorations of figuration versus abstraction. His large oils on plywood are known for their thickly textured surfaces. Craven moved to New York in the 1990's. He is represented in the AGO, VAG, MMFA, and WAG.
