Masato Arikushi is the master printer who worked in close collaboration with Takao Tanabe, Mary Pratt, E.J. Hughes and other distinguished artists to produce their important woodcut editions. Born in Hokkaido, Japan, Arikushi trained in the Japanese woodblock printing process under Toshi Yoshida in Tokyo. In 1980, he immigrated to Canada, where he resides today.

The Seashore at Crofton was the first original print created by E.J. Hughes since the early 1930s. It was developed by the artist to benefit the Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation Artists for Kids Trust, in partnership with Masato Arikushi. The image was hand-crafted with 26 blocks to create the final work, which is in an edition of 100 plus 10 artist’s proofs.
