PROVENANCE
Private Collection, British Columbia

Born in New Westminster in 1918, Joe Plaskett initially studied at the University of British Columbia, receiving a history degree. He became interested in art soon after, continuing his studies at the Vancouver School of Art while also being the subject of two solo shows at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1941 and 1946. Plaskett was the first recipient of the Emily Carr scholarship in 1946, awarded by Lawren Harris, which enabled him to study at the San Francisco School of Art under Clyfford Still.
