PROVENANCE
Acquired in New Brunswick by a Private Collector
By descent to the present Private Collection, British Columbia

EXHIBITED
Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Fredericton, The Queen Comes to New Brunswick: Paintings and Drawings by Molly Lamb Bobak, September 27, 1977 - February 6, 1979, traveling to the Confederation Centre Art Gallery and Museum, Charlottetown; Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's; The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa; and Sir George Williams Art Galleries, Montreal, catalogue #49

The opening of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's third visit to New Brunswick was on July 15th, 1976. After the official welcome at the Legislative Assembly Building in Fredericton and a stop at City Hall, The Queen and Prince Philip visited Woolastook Provincial Park. This painting depicts their attendance at the Boy Scout Jamboree, where they then picnicked with approximately 3,500 schoolchildren, and viewed performances by Les jeunes chanteurs d'Acadie and the Kiwanis Steel Band.

The consignor's father was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and was assigned to the Queen's security detail for that day. He would be depicted in the painting alongside the Queen, who Bobak placed in the center of the composition, identifiable in her iconic blue dress and white gloves.
